Each week, we’ll brief you on notable stats and happenings related to current events impacting the job market now or in the foreseeable future. The Realities of a Tight Labor Market With the U.S. unemployment rate at a low 4.4% and a record 6.2 million job openings in July per the Labor Department, some employers are getting creative to solve hiring woes. A survey from CareerBuilder found that of the 2,000 companies surveyed, almost 50% of them had trouble finding qualified candidates – up from 41% in 2016. For some, the time-to-fill for both blue and white-collar roles has reached the tipping point. To curb this, employers are hiring candidates that have little or no experience, even for roles that historically had strict hiring requirements, per USA Today. Paul McDonald, senior executive director of Robert Half states, “Companies aren’t going for 100% of the job description. They’re going for approximately 70% to 75% of the [...]

The Effect of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma The full spectrum of after effects from hurricanes Harvey and Irma are as yet unknown, but will be felt for many years to come. The job market will share center stage with other areas of the economy deeply shaken by these catastrophic events. As the storms pummeled and in some areas leveled cities and towns, the infrastructure of entire companies were also caught in the upheaval. These effects will not only be felt in the areas hit by the storms, but in other areas of the country and world as well. John Cui, assistant professor of operations at Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business states, "Yes for sure there’s going to be an increasing number of construction jobs maybe next year and into the [...]

Movers & Shakers in Tech: Who Are They Hiring?

Not surprisingly, Information Technology is one of the top industries within the BountyJobs Marketplace. As IT is both an industry as well as a job category within other industries, it’s a bit unique.  As highlighted in our 2017 Agency Recruiting Benchmark Report for IT, the 3 tech jobs sent to search with the highest volume of postings within BountyJobs were Developer, System Development, and IT Project Management. 80% of those roles were Non-Managerial, and the top 3 categories for tech jobs were Financial Services, Information Technology, and Healthcare/Health Services. Paysa, a service providing information and insight to employees to make educated and informed decisions about their careers, recently published a report around ‘Tech Disruptors’ and ‘Tech Titans’.  They “analyzed over 8,200 job postings and over 70,000 resumes to figure out who’s hiring and which skills are the most in demand at some of the leading tech companies.” To better organize their findings, they split the [...]

AI in Recruiting: Data Mining in the 21st Century

While AI (artificial intelligence) in recruiting might still be shiny and new, chances are, if you’ve been out in the job market as a job seeker or TA professional recently, you’ve come across this use of technology. The power of AI is the capability to sort through the myriad data types, review a variety of variables, and identify trends that might not be obvious to the average person.  More often than not, candidates don’t hear back after submitting an application – according to Forbes, that’s about 85% of applicants.  On the flip side, 71% of employers say they have trouble finding a perfect match for their roles. Enter…AI. The AI market is hot and competitive in each industry it touches, and TA is no exception.  Per Fortune.com, about 75 startups are fighting to get their share of the $100 billion HR assessment market. Further, Josh Bersin, principal at Bersin by Deloitte, states, “I get emails [...]

TMA Summits – Philadelphia 2017

The TMA Healthcare Recruiting Summit and Talent Acquisition Summit were held August 15th & 16th in Philadelphia.  It was a privilege for us to not only attend the sessions, but to present as well.  Our own Regional Director, Shannon McAulay-Newcomb, spoke on the topic, 'Demystifying Recruitment Analytics: Winning the War for Talent in Healthcare'.  Regional Directors Roger Dowie and Katrina Polansky rounded out our coverage of these events as we also hosted a table to field questions and engage in informative discussions with conference attendees.   Here's What We Found Data is King Our topic turned out to be timely, and was a key theme throughout both days of each summit. Collecting data, and more importantly deciphering it in a meaningful way, is significant when distinguishing yourself in competitive markets. The concept of 'big data' was also fundamental in the day’s discussions. While gathering large amounts of data to be analyzed is nothing new, the [...]
