The Realities of a Tight Labor Market With the U.S. unemployment rate at a low 4.4% and a record 6.2 million job openings in July per the Labor Department, some employers are getting creative to solve hiring woes. A survey from CareerBuilder found that of the 2,000 companies surveyed, almost 50% of them had trouble finding qualified candidates – up from 41% in 2016.
